Resumo: The depiction of animals in the Beatus manuscripts is abundant in the miniatures, initials and marginalia. However, the early sources, registers and catalogues accounting for these codices fail to provide ample, if any, references to them. Art collecting, exhibitions and the need to record and catalogue the Spanish medieval past generated the collection of certain references and different judgements about this matter. This paper explores both the omissions and attempts at recognizing the fauna in the Beatus series, focusing on the nineteenth and early twentieth century discourses on art historiography.

Sociedade Brasileira de Teoria e História da Historiografia, Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto, Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro2022-04-27info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionAvaliado pelos paresapplication/pdfhttps://www.historiadahistoriografia.com.br/revista/article/view/181910.15848/hh.v15i38.1819História da Historiografia: International Journal of Theory and History of Historiography; Vol. 15 No. 38 (2022); 137-166História da Historiografia: International Journal of Theory and History of Historiography; Vol. 15 Núm. 38 (2022); 137-166História da Historiografia: International Journal of Theory and History of Historiography; v. 15 n. 38 (2022); 137-1661983-9928reponame:História da Historiografiainstname:Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto (UFOP)instacron:UFOPspahttps://www.historiadahistoriografia.com.br/revista/article/view/1819/982Copyright (c) 2022 Nadia Mariana Consiglierihttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessConsiglieri, Nadia Mariana2022-04-28T00:07:28Zoai:ojs.www.historiadahistoriografia.com.br:article/1819Revistahttps://www.historiadahistoriografia.com.br/revistaPUBhttps://www.historiadahistoriografia.com.br/revista/oaivaldei354@gmail.com || historiadahistoriografia@hotmail.com1983-99281983-9928opendoar:2022-04-28T00:07:28História da Historiografia - Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto (UFOP)false
