The internationalization of Portuguese historiography in the 21st century

Resumo: This article focuses on the institutional conditions for the internationalization of Portuguese historiography in the past 20 years. Its aim is to explain why the international historiographical community still has a limited knowledge about the Portuguese historical reality, and about the work carried out by Portuguese historians. The first part is comprised by a discussion of the contributions that were made within a debate promoted in 2003 by the e-Journal of Portuguese History. The second part of this article discusses the subsequent evolution of the Portuguese historiographical milieu, emphasizing the areas in which its internationalization has been more successful.
