Partindo do objetivo geral o trabalho consistiu em descrever como os professores lidam com a temática em questão, tomando por base se eles veem o ensino da Língua Portuguesa sob a perspectiva da norma padrão e/ou da variação linguística. Para alcançar os resultados esperados empregou-se como metodologia uma entrevista semiestruturada que continha perguntas referentes aos dados pessoais dos professores e sobre o ensino de Língua Portuguesa, sobretudo focando na didática e nas escolhas dos docentes. A entrevista aconteceu com 18 professores, sendo divididos em escolas públicas e particulares e por níveis de ensino: Ensino Fundamental I e II e Ensino Médio. Após coletados os dados foram feitas análises dos relatos dos professores, tomando por base os aportes teóricos referentes às crenças e às atitudes linguísticas, numa perspectiva da Sociolinguística Educacional. Os resultados alcançados reportaram que ainda há muitas crenças que pairam sobre o ensino da Língua Portuguesa, dentre elas a crença predominante de que há uma língua ideal embasada pela norma padrão e que esta deve ser a modalidade mais ensinada nas aulas. A maioria dos professores reconhecem que a língua é rica em variações linguísticas, mas essa temática ainda é pouco explorada em sala de aula. A pesquisa também mostrou que a oralidade não é muito abordada pelos professores, a maioria se debruça sobre conteúdos que abordam a escrita, pois consideram que este conteúdo contempla mais a formalidade da língua. Assim, o presente trabalho procurou contribuir para a área da Linguística Aplicada ao ensino da língua materna sobretudo ao mostrar os pontos de vista dos professores da cidade de Mariana (MG), enfatizando como suas crenças e atitudes podem ser constantemente estudadas e repensadas com o intuito das práticas docentes serem sempre melhoradas.This is a research about Portuguese teachers’ beliefs and linguistic attitudes on teaching orality in the classroom. Stemming from its general objective, this study aimed to describe how teachers manage to work with the theme aforementioned based on whether they view the teaching of Portuguese from the standard norm or from the linguistic variation perspective. In order to achieve the expected results, a semi-structured interview was carried out as a methodological resource. It held questions regarding the teachers’ personal information and the teaching of Portuguese focusing, especially, on the teachers’ practice and choices. Eighteen teachers were interviewed. They were divided according to school type, private and public, and to school levels, elementary and high school. After the data collection, analyses of the teachers' narratives were performed based on the theoretical framework of beliefs and linguistic attitudes and according to an Educational Sociolinguistics’ perspective. The results reported that there have still been several beliefs toward the teaching of Portuguese. A predominant belief is that there is an ideal language ruled by the standard norm and that must be the most taught modality during classes. Most of the teachers recognize that language is rich in linguistic variations, but this theme is still under explored in the classroom. The research also showed that orality is not often approached by the teachers. The majority of them rely on writing related contents for they consider these contents contemplate better the formality of language.
