Resumo: The childcare, especially applied in the first two years of life, when the child is more fragile, by its own constitution and immunity still in the process of maturation, should be valued by doctors and nurses, competent professional to be pediatrics, because proper care at this stage of life influences throughout the individual's life. It was aimed to assess the aspects approached in a childcare consultation performed by physicians and nurses of the Family Health Strategy (FHS) according to what is recommended by the Ministry of Health. Descriptive, observational, non-participant, structured, cross-sectional research with quantitative approach, with a sample of 80 people in all the six executive offices in the city of Fortaleza ? Ceará , Brazil. Data collection occurred in three stages. At first there was the research presentation to the professionals, the signing of the Informed Consent Term, scheduling visits to start the observations and the checklist application for child care. In the second stage, the structured interview was applied for professional characterization. And in the third, a checklist of issues covered in childcare was performed. The results showed that in the profile of the study population concerning social variables, there was the prevalence of the 3rd Regional Executive Office, 31 (38.8%). 60 nurses (75.0%) aged between 31 and 40 years, 48 (60.0%), specialist qualification, 54 (67.5%) and time in family health from 6 to 10 years, 36 (45.0%). Regarding the physical examination, all children were assessed. On the anthropometric features, there was prevalence of non-assessment and non-orientation of heart girth, 54 (67.5%). On the eating habits for children older than six months of life, there was the prevalence, eating habits, does not apply 41 (51.3%) and vitamin A, does not apply 47 (58.8%). As for work experience in the Family Health in years and the issues approached for the child's development, resulted in non-presentation of statistical significance association, since in none of the development factors presented 5% significance level. As for reflections, there was prevalence of plantar grasp, assess 42 (52.5%). Concerning the general guidelines, there was prevalence of assessment and/or orientation of oral health 47 (58.8%), vaccines, assess and/or guides 69 (86.3%). We conclude that the implementation through an instrument to guide the systematic childcare will help to extend the approach to important and essential questions for all children and improve knowledge, attitude and practice of pediatric professionals in Primary Health Care.
