Resumo: Maria Ondina Braga worked as a teacher in Macao between 1961 and 1965, marking the presence of Portuguese culture in this territory, which also received the poets Luís Vaz de Camões, Manoel Maria Du Bocage and Camilo Pessanha. Without looking at great deeds in the book A China fica ao lado, the writer, in the tale “Natal Chinês”, through the account of a Portuguese teacher brings to memory the details of the events experienced during the Christmas celebrations. The paper analyzes the confessions of the protagonist in unveiling the intercultural conflicts, the existential dramas that emerge in the space of the nun college in Macao during the Christmas period, when personal histories and diverse nationalities intertwine and reveal themselves.
