Resumo: The present research is characterized by being of interfaces’ work between linguistic and literary studies, that focus on analyzing the occurrences of the word “mujer” in the short stories of the book Mujeres de ojos grandes (MASTRETTA, 1991). The analysis is made from the perspective of the use of the lexis, aiming to comprehend the process of signification, and the reasons why, sometimes, general-purpose dictionaries don’t carry the exact lexical meaning that builds the narrative. In this sense, it is expected that this work will contribute in the enlargement of the studies focused on the lexis in the academy, as well as add to the few studies and researches about Ángeles Mastretta’s productions in Brazil.
