Meu destino é ser onça: contemporaneity and tupinambá mythology

Resumo: By valuing Brazilianness, the modernist project in Brazil aimed to rethink the contradictions of Brazilian history (JARDIM, 1978), as the “borrowed” cultural formation. Such a debate unfolds in contemporary literary productions, such as Meu destino é ser onça (2009), by Alberto Mussa. Under the premise of restoring the Tupinambá myth, the author problematizes the importance of the jaguar, a metaphor conceived as the maximum expression of human alterity, acting as a link between the modern and the primitive. This can be associated with the maintenance of the literary tradition and to the recovery of marginalized voices in contemporaneity (CURY, 2007; GARRAMUÑO, 2014) in order to claim the organization of indigenous societies through anticolonial speeches. In addition, to examine Mussa’s metafictional project, the theme of myth was selected (LÉVI-STRAUSS, 1978; 2008) for interpretation in the work. In both stages, the intention is to raise discussions that can be related to the current indigenous scenario, even if in a utopic way.

Tal debate desdobra-se em produções literárias contemporâneas, como Meu destino é ser onça (2009), de Alberto Mussa. Sob a premissa de restauração do mito tupinambá, o autor problematiza a importância da onça, metáfora concebida como expressão máxima da alteridade humana. A onça atua como elemento de ligação do moderno com o primitivo, vinculado à manutenção da tradição literária e à recuperação de vozes marginalizadas na contemporaneidade (CURY, 2007; GARRAMUÑO, 2014) para reivindicar a organização das sociedades ameríndias pelos discursos anticoloniais. Além do exame do projeto metaficcional de Mussa, selecionou-se a temática do mito (LÉVI-STRAUSS, 1978; 2008) para interpretação na obra.
