Resumo: Routine surveillance swabs collection is recommended in critical environments such as intensive care units (ICU) and especially in outbreak situations. Analysis of surveillance culture results can guide preventive measures and thus assist in containing the cross spread of multiresistant bacteria. This study aimed to represent the resistance of bacteria isolated from surveillance cultures obtained from internal users, which were examined by a private laboratory in the city of João Pessoa. The work constitute s a cross - sectional study, retrospective, descriptive exploratory quantitative approach. The study was conducted in Bacteriology Private Sector of Clinical Laboratory Analysis in the city of João Pessoa, Paraíba State, during the period October 2013 to Dec ember 2014. Data were obtained after analyzing the records of laboratory records of users admitted to different health units in the city of João Pessoa. The research took into account the prevalence of colonizing bacterial strains generally multiresistant bacteria and its implications. Among the records analyzed, 62% were from female subjects, which for the most part (44%) belonged to the age group with the highest age to sixty years. Surveillance cultures showed a 37.72% positivity percentage stood out the rectal swab cultures as with higher number of bacterial species isolated (57.69%). Analyzed cultures nasal and rectal swabs was observed that approximately 83% of these had only colonization by bacteria. The most frequent bacteria were Klebsiella pneumoni ae, followed by Escherichia coli, highlighting the presence of multidrug - resistant strains for both bacterial species. This type of surveillance is necessary to guide additional contact precautions, in the work routine in hospital risk areas in order to re duce cross - transmission of multi - resistant pathogens

Submitted by Fernando Vieira (nandogusto6@gmail.com) on 2016-03-09T14:57:06Z No. of bitstreams: 1 TFS09032016.pdf: 670899 bytes, checksum: 4894e8ddf747d3d6a9230d0cc141f0eb (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2016-03-09T14:57:06Z (GMT).
