Art and philosophy as a prevention and healing. The case of violence in Guayaquil, Ecuador

Firstly, this article analyzes the potential of artistic practices and cultural manifestations developed in peripheral, marginal urban areas of the city of Guayaquil as a mechanism of integration and social cohesion to prevent violence. To this end, methodologically, a qualitative approach to experiences developed in this field by development cooperation institutions that work in conjunction with the University of the Arts is proposed. The starting point is then the compilation of documented evidence of project execution, interviews and academic texts, to then develop an analysis and interpretation of the processes and results achieved in these interventions carried out mainly in sectors such as Isla Trinitaria and neighborhoods in the Northwest of Guayaquil, sites of high conflict and insecurity. Secondly, an analytical study is carried out on some thinkers who deal with the issue of violence and peace. These studies can illuminate and offer theoretical tools for conflict resolution. Not everything is lost and without hope, it is possible to (re)build and recover the lost harmony.
