Um sonho afogado: ditadura militar e movimento estudantil no Estado da Paraíba – o caso de João Roberto Borges de Souza (1958-1969)

The present research of this dissertation is inserted in the line of research "Human Rights and Democracy: theory, history and politics", Area of Concentration in Public Policies in Human Rights, offered by the Program of Post Graduation in Human Rights, Citizenship and Public Policies of the Federal University of Paraiba. The research begins by addressing the Cold War, the influence of the doctrine of national security on military and civil society plots on the coup of April 1, 1964. It shows the preparations of the landlords and their civil allies to collaborate with the military in Paraíba, Acquisitions of arms and recruitment of people to invade the city of Joao Pessoa in case there was a reaction and failure to seize power by the army. It analyzes in detail the military police investigations and disciplinary sanctions in the universities in the post-coup, open to investigate and to punish paraibanos that were against this intervention. It describes the performance of the Paraíba university student movement, from 1958 to 1969, as it was disarticulated by the dictatorship in 1964 and reorganized by its leaders who rebuilt their representative entities (UNE, UEEP, DCE and DA's). History the great demonstrations of streets, mainly those happened in 1968, and the punishments suffered by the student leaderships in 1969, by an illegal act of the rector of the UFPB, executed even before the Decree 477. It emphasizes the figure of João Roberto Borges de Souza, A medical student, vice president of UEEP, president of the DA of his course, arrested several times and physically and psychologically tortured, pointing out the contradictions about his death in a rural dump of Catolé do Rocha in October 1969. He concludes using The Institute of the Right to the Truth as an instrument to know the human rights violations practiced by the military dictatorship in Brazil in persecution of the authoritarian regime to its opponents. As a consequence, we began an approach on the transversality of pain, studying the suffering of political prisoners and the extent of this suffering to their families, when the State denies or manipulates the real circumstance of human rights violations, especially in cases of tragic death and Forced disappearance.
