Resumo: | A new state of the matter of current interest is the so-called topological insulators. These materials have aroused great interest to present a very peculiar electronic behavior that arises from the non-trivial topology of the band structure. "Exotic" behavior is characterized by the existence of a flow of electrons (similar to a conductor) only on its surfaces while inside it are insulating. The existence of a metallic surface in these materials allows us to have damaging control when applying an electric field, or an electric polarization when applying a magnetic field and this effect is known as magnetoelectric and this same effect was predicted in the Axions study. The importance of studying these types of materials is the possibility of technological applications in quantum computing and spintronics. In this dissertation, we are theoretically interested in a numerical model solverable to systems formed by the junction of a topological insulation and a common insulation characterized by an axionic term. For this, we wish to analyze the behavior of light in this type of system so that the non-trivial topology of the structure of bands will depend on the variation of more than one parameter of the system. The main contributions of our work is to obtain of band structures for photons dependent on more than one parameter of the system. |
