the play influences the child development encouraging her to apprehend behaviors, knowledge building on her own reality besides express her feelings and emotions. Considering that the child with cancer has organic and psychological changes, the prank is an instrument to reduce child’s anxiety about unknown and permits her a possibility to show her authenticity. The present study initiated by the following question: what’s the importance of playing for children on chemotherapy and their accompanying mothers? To answer this question, this research has as objectives investigating the importance of playing for children with cancer on chemotherapy and their accompanying mothers; analyzing the speeches of the children and their mothers, using the Humanistic Nursing Theory of Paterson and Zderad. Methodology: it’s a qualitative research realized at a clinic of pediatric oncology and chemotherapy ambulatory for children, both health services localized at the city of Campina Grande-PB. Participated of this study five children on chemotherapy and five accompanying mothers. For the data, we use the technical of interview with a preliminary guide containing questions related to the proposed objectives. The data were collected between May and October of 2015, after authorization of the Committee of Ethical Research. The empiric material was analyzed by Humanistic Nursing Theory. Results: according to the data, it was possible write two articles: (1) Being Mother of a child with cancer and the importance of playing.(2) Existential experience of children on chemotherapy about the importance of playing. The first manuscript allowed us apprehend the changes that occurs at mothers of cancer children and that, in principle, are determined by the diagnostic impact. Concerning the importance of playing, the mothers highlight those ludic activities, besides being a font of pleasure and happiness, favoring that children don't stay idle. In the second article, the children speech which integrates this study revealed that playing at the ambulatory provides a joyful moment and an entertainment for them, reducing the anxiety related the waiting time. Also, these speeches showed that the play stimulates sensations which feel themselves better, encouraging they face positively their suffering experience. Conclusion: The Play is an important strategy which may be used as during the hospitalization as during the chemotherapy for children at the ambulatory. The benefits are realized by children as by the accompanying mothers.
