The use of technology as a mediator of the action of people and institutions has been growing, what has led to an increase in the number of records of activities in digital environments. The task of managing and storing such records, according to criteria that offer an operative arrangement and access now and in the future, has become a challenge for the scientific and professional community of Information. In the context of the digital transformation of the public service, federal universities have been holding several demands related to the creation and storage of these digital records. For the purposes of this work, a digital record is defined as a set of attributes that allow the data included in a document within a digital environment to become an unfold and accessible document to any user over time along with the content on which it is based, the transactions and requirements that validate it, and, besides all this, whenever it is produced to evidence and to serve as a proof of the activities of a person or institution, is labeled na archival digital record. In this sense, this work focused on studying how the digital archival records produced by the Center of Legal Sciences of the Federal University of Paraíba (CCJ/UFPB) are constituted, through their description, categorization and identification of the metadata necessary for their digital preservation. In order to do so, it was necessary a survey into technical literature models that enabled describing and categorizing the archival digital records created by the CCJ/UFPB; a categorization of a sample of the archival digital records produced by the CCJ/UFPB based on those available models is then proposed; as well as identifying the necessary metadata for a digital preservation of such archival digital records. Methodologically, it is a both quantitative and qualitative study, accomplished through bibliographic, descriptive and applied research. Systematic review and case study guided the procedures used for data collection and analysis. The final result plot and describe two hundred thirty-four types of digital archival records created by CCJ/UFPB, categorized as five models of digital records. It presents the metadata identifying origin and location, distinction between digital and digitized, description of the device and systems used, automatic and manual description, demonstrated as the metadata for the digital preservation of archival digital records. It also offers a reflection on the complexity of the nature of these records and eventual emerged theoretical and practical challenges, one if these is the archivists professional training need, with a special attention yo the definition of standards and rules for digital preservation metadata specific to archival digital records.
