Acessibilidade em sistema de circulação de pedestres: avaliação do Campus I da UFPB.

The pedestrian circulation system consists of structures that make up a significant portion of the built environment; and its accessibility is essential for a safe and inclusive urban mobility; especially in educational public institutions, which should guarantee free access for citizens to all sectors and levels of education and research. In this respect, this research has as main objective evaluate the accessibility of the pedestrian circulation system of Campus I of Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), by identifying its spatial integration, based on Space Syntax; physical characterization of the more integrated pathways, using the Assessment Worksheet for Accessibility; and evaluation of the entirely system, through the application of questionnaires among users. Based on the applied methodology, was noted that the University City is comprised of more linear paths toward the West and South, and passages with more numerous changes of direction towards east and north, indicating lower levels of accessibility. With regard to infrastructure, was identified the need to adapt to specific legislation related to communication and signaling; followed by urban furniture, access and circulation, so as parking, which indicates the urgency in developing and implementing a signage project for the Campus, as well, the increase of urban furniture and restructuring of sidewalks, walkways and parking lots. In order to minimize the identified difficulties, specific improvements have been proposed in the short, medium and long term, as the development of a Mobility Plan for the Campus, ensuring the accessibility of system structures. Finally, is considered that this search collaborated considerably for indicating critical points and listed the ones that should be prioritized during the planning process or restructuring of the pedestrian circulation system of UFPB Campus I.
