Resumo: Social and environmental movements in the Vale do Gramame have been taking place since the 1960s with the installation of the Industrial District. The compromise in water quality is posing serious risks to the general population. The Viva Olho no Tempo School emerged as a way to bring eco-education to children, and through raising awareness to seek improvements to the river. Scientific production exemplifying the poor quality of water is extremely important to serve as subsidies for communities to seek their rights and improve it for the public authorities. The present work sought to carry out a social analysis of social movements in favor of Rio Gramame and to know how these actions influence water quality. Water quality assessments of the Gramame River were carried out before and after the accident that occurred with the industrial cardboard waste dumped in the river. Social analyzes were carried out through interviews / questionnaires and participant observation. Water analyzes were made with biweekly, daily / weekly collections (before and after the accident respectively), being evaluated: electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen, temperature, pH, total dissolved solids and redox potential. Nutrient analyzes were carried out with nitrogen - ammonia, nitrate and nitrite, and phosphates - orthophosphate and total phosphorus. Chronic ecotoxicological tests were also carried out using the draft mill. Social analyzes have shown that actions to improve water quality and well-being in the Gramame Valley contribute significantly to the non-worsening of the pollution situation in which the Rio Gramame is found. And water quality analyzes show that the river on the banks of BR 101 was the point most affected by pollution after the accident, with BR 101 and Ponte dos arcos showing the greatest differences between before and after the accident in relation to variables: pH, OD, STD and ORP. The electrical conductivity showed a difference between before and after only at Ponte dos Arcos. Among the analyzed nutrients, total phosphorus was the only one that showed significant differences between before and after both in BR101 and in Ponte dos Arcos. Regarding ecotoxicological analyzes before the accident, no toxicity was shown, after the accident there was toxicity in BR 101 (on the day of the accident and one day after) and in PB 008 one day after the accident. The analyzes carried out in this research were presented to the leaders of social movements so that they can be presented to the Federal Public Ministry and as soon as effective measures are taken in favor of improving the water quality of the Gramame River.
