Resumo: The present work has as main focus a comparative hermeneutic between the Buddhist Doctrine – represented by the First Discourse of Buddha dealing with the Four Noble Truths, emphasizing the ethical element of the Noble Eightfold Path – and the Doctrine of the Centro Espírita Beneficente União do Vegetal – represented by the Bulletins of the Consciousness and by the oratory of its founder, Master Gabriel, having the moral virtues as the guiding thread. As both religions are endowed with a strong ethical, transformer of conducts, the objective is to establish a parallel, in this specific aspect, between the two religious traditions, in order to perceive, at the same time, common elements as well as existing differences, on this specific aspect. Saying in other way: this parallel is drawing on the basis of the ethics that inspire each of them, both by the analysis of the codes of conduct, as well as the actions that lead to discernment and virtue, that is, transformative actions of conduct. In the present work we will proceed to the development of “ethics” based mainly on the studies of Aristotle (2014) in his Nicomachean Ethics and Alasdair MacIntyre, notably in his book After Virtue: a study in moral theory (2001), where this author starts from the diagnosis that contemporary society experiences a moral crisis thanks to the failure of modern liberal philosophy, concluding that only a moral philosophy capable of guaranteeing rationality to morality and ethics is able to account for this phenomenon. Besides this approach, it has as methodological cuts questions related to orality, memory and symbolism that are present in these two traditions. That occurs because the sources originating a symbolic universe of great treasure, as both brought their doctrine and teachings orally, which privileges memory. It is not ignored the significant difference that permeates the present study, such as the use of the ayahuasca tea, by the adepts of UDV, as a means to reach the concentration. We can conclude that, although with different languages, these two traditions point first to a careful and correct use of the word and second that action must take place within ethical standards of conduct. Points of divergence specific are also pointed out, for example, the different approach that the two traditions bring from the way of life.
