Today's Information and Knowledge Society has increasingly required professionals to have skills that involve managing the technological resources present in the organisations where they work. History shows that over the millennia technologies (from cave paintings to software) have brought about behavioural, social, physical, and mental changes in all those who use them directly or indirectly. This research aims to analyse the implications of the changes that technologies are bringing about, to outline the desirable profile for the archivist in the job market in the face of prospective scenarios, with a view to answering the following question: what challenges, facets and prospective scenarios can be outlined in relation to the profile and job market of the professional archivist? This work assumes that by recognising technological trends, archivists are implementing strategies to maintain their professional relevance, actively contributing to the definition of new standards and practices in Information Science and Archivology. As for the methodological structure, it has an abductive approach, with a qualitative and quantitative focus, applying case study and statistical procedures, and is bibliographical and documental in nature. Data was collected and analysed using systematic literature review methods using PRISMA, focus groups, the Delphi method and the Godet’s method. The study reveals that the variables Curriculum Matrix, Marketing, Continuing Education and Public Tender directly impact the movement of the actors Archivists, Archives, Association, Undergraduate Archivology Courses, Government and Post-Humanist Technologies, creating four possible prospective scenarios for the future of the profession. The results obtained provide a comprehensive understanding of market expectations and the challenges faced by archivists. Differences and similarities in the prospective scenarios highlight the need for adjustments in basic training, the implementation of effective marketing strategies and the relevance of associative engagement. The strategies proposed aim to prepare these professionals to deal with the imminent transformations, emphasising a strategic vision and technological awareness to ensure a relevant position in the labour market. The research concludes with suggestions for future investigations, including expanding the study to other countries, delving into the ethical implications associated with the use of post-humanist technologies, developing protocols for the ethical use of these technologies, practical case studies, assessing the acceptance of these technologies by professionals and society, and promoting continuous training. The work concludes by highlighting the satisfactory response to the proposed problem, providing an instigating look at new questions and reflections in Information Science and Archivology.
