Resumo: The present study sought to analyze the activity of human resources managers of some companies located in the Brazilian northeast. In spite of the importance that this activity has acquired in the companies in recent years, it is still little investigated, reason why we chose to study it associated with the fact that the author of this study has professional experience in this area. From the theoretical point of view, the approach that anchors this dissertation is the Psychodynamics of work, a discipline that has as object of study the psychic processes mobilized by the confrontation of the subject with a certain reality of work. The sample of this study is composed of six participants, human resources managers, selected for convenience. For the collection of data, we used semi-structured individual interviews, guided by a script that contemplates the theoretical categories of the study. To analyze the data, we use the Thematic Content Analysis. The data indicated that this activity consumes time and energy of these managers, being more a mission than a task for several of the interviewees, since there is no detailed prescription as to what should be done. This fact makes that the companies demand of these professionals a great availability to the work, which leads to an imbalance in the relations between work and private life. The demand for devotion interferes negatively in caring for the family, even neglecting their own lives and those of their families. We hope, with such results, to contribute to the knowledge and understanding of this work activity, of recognized importance in labor relations in the contemporary world.

Apesar da importância que essa atividade adquiriu nas empresas em anos recentes, ela ainda é pouco investigada, razão pela qual optamos em estudá-la associada ao fato da autora desse estudo ter experiência profissional nessa área. Do ponto de vista teórico, a abordagem que ancora esta dissertação é a Psicodinâmica do trabalho, disciplina que tem como objeto de estudo os processos psíquicos mobilizados pela confrontação do sujeito com uma determinada realidade de trabalho. A amostra deste estudo é composta por seis participantes, gerentes de recursos humanos, selecionados por conveniência. Para a coleta de dados, utilizou-se de entrevistas individuais semiestruturadas, guiadas por um roteiro que contempla as categorias teóricas do estudo. Para análise dos dados, utilizamos a Análise de Conteúdo Temática. Os dados sinalizaram o quanto essa atividade consome tempo e energia desses gerentes, configurando-se mais como uma missão que uma tarefa para vários dos entrevistados, já que não há uma prescrição detalhada quanto ao que deve ser realizado. Tal fato faz com que as empresas solicitem desses profissionais uma grande disponibilidade ao trabalho, o que conduz a um desequilíbrio nas relações entre trabalho e vida privada. A exigência de devotamento interfere negativamente no cuidado com a família, chegando a negligenciar suas próprias vidas e as de seus familiares.
