In this paper we dedicate ourselves to understand the process of building sense of associative anaphora in journalistic genre. This type of Anaphora occurs when the anaphoric element does not refer to any explicit antecedent in the text, thus, to assign meaning to it, interpretative processes of essentially cognitive nature are required as inferences and associations. We intend to demonstrate that some interpretation of an anaphoric referent is essentially related to conceptual schemes and Idealized Cognitive Models, from now on MCI (LAKOFF, 1987), so a referring expression gets sense through a relationship of a series of components (co-)textual and contextual. We used examples of stories broadcast in Jornal Nacional and Jornal of the Paraíba, collected in 2009 between March and December. Through an interpretive methodology we tried to answer the following question: how is the construction of meaning in the processing of associative anaphora in the journalistic genre? We based this analysis on theoretical assumptions predominantly of Cognitive Linguistics, as well as the processes of categorization and conceptualization. Alongsidethat we performed an interface with Textual Linguistics (TL). This interface is required for the following factors: the TL found the referential process and consequently the anaphors . The LC underpins the thesis that the process of conceptualization of a particular sense depends on a set of information built by individuals, based on the knowledge that is already built into them through life experiences. Our results demonstrate that we evoke a sense of associative anaphora from a selected MCI, and through the process categorical that, among all possible traits of a specific stimulus, selects those that are systematically more effective for the occurrence of interpretive construction desired.
