Religiosidade/espiritualidade como estratégia de Coping na adesão e no abandono do tratamento em pessoas vivendo com o HIV

This work aims to investigate the influence of religiosity and spirituality in coping with the disease in people living with HIV, regarding adherence to antiretroviral therapy. The study was carried out in the outpatient clinic of a reference hospital in the city of João Pessoa-PB, with the participation of 154 users, 117 of whom adhered to the treatment and 37 people who did not adhere to the drug treatment. For analysis, a sociodemographic questionnaire and the Coping Religious Spiritual scale in its brief version were used. At the end of the study, it was found the use of positive coping in both samples, however with the significant finding that the average use of negative spiritual coping strategies was higher in the group of non-adherent people. Thus, it revealed that there is less interaction with religiosity and spirituality in its positive form of coping in the non-adherent group, leading us to question the need to focus on the spiritual dimension to help with therapeutic adherence.
