Resumo: This article discusses the intricacies of political movements in the years 1831 and 1832, between Crato and Jardim villages, known as the Pinto Madeira revolt and its 'cabra’s army'. More specifically, the production of one category of the population drawing is analyzed, called goat, composed of ignorant and mobilized elements for the realization of revolts and riots, especially against the government of the Province. Pinto Madeira, commander of the troops of the aforementioned villages Cariri Cearense, rebelled against the government when the Imperial abdication of D. Pedro I to the Brazilian throne. The participation of the poor - peasants in general - as soldiers of Madeira produced a negative identification of these hinterland. So that cabra, went from a local and everyday reference to a category created institutionally by the provincial government.

Mais especificamente, é analisada a produção do desenho de uma categoria da população, denominada cabra, composta por elementos ignorantes e mobilizáveis para a realização de revoltas e motins, sobretudo contrários ao governo da Província. Pinto Madeira, comandante das tropas das citadas vilas do Cariri Cearense, se rebelou contra o governo Imperial quando da abdicação de D. Pedro I ao trono Brasileiro. A participação das populações pobres - camponeses, em geral - como soldados de Madeira, produziu uma identificação negativa sobre esses sertanejos.
