Resumo: The article reflects on the scientific travels in the Imperial Brazil, highlighting the path way of Alfred Russel Wallace through rivers and equatorial forests of the Amazon valley, and the varied cultural events that took place in this collecting journey. Becomes important the emphasis given to the descriptions of indians and black people of his view, and the analysis of the characteristics and recurrences of this view in comparison of nineteenth-century thought, and in order to break, dissension and creativity.
