Resumo: This text aims to reveal some of the ways in which disinformation was mobilized as an instrument for constructing and conveying representations, in the 17th century, by those who dedicated themselves to writing narratives about the Dutch period in Brazil (1624-1654). The work addresses fake news – discussing the relevance of applying this term to phenomena of the modern period – in its strategic role, on the part of those who chronicled the conflict, in search of material and symbolic gains. It identifies its use in pamphlets and books, put into circulation during the conflict and after the ceasefire. It concludes, in general, that the historicization process of that war was permeated by trickery, by the effort to create mythologized characters, by acts coated with miraculous features and by other discursive resources that allowed to increase the impact of the story told.

O trabalho aborda as fake News – discutindo a pertinência de aplicar este termo a fenômenos do período moderno – em seu papel estratégico, por parte dos que historiaram o conflito, em busca de ganhos materiais e simbólicos. Identifica o seu emprego em panfletos e livros, postos em circulação no curso do conflito e após o cessar-fogo.
