The body in consumer studies: a bibliographical review on the subject

Resumo: | The purpose of the article is to understand how the body has been investigated in consumer studies over the last 42 years, specifically, in the papers published in the Journal of Consumer Research. Besides being a very valued element in Brazilian culture, being an element pointed as a particular form of capital, the body promotes a great industry of products and services. Aiming to provide subsidies to future researchers in consumer studies, the authors carried out a bibliographical survey by reading 79 articles published within JCR, and selected 45 of those that directly or indirectly approached the subject, and complemented by selected Brazilian scientific articles. The authors initially conclude that the subject encompassed an exploration of its biological structure and more tangible characters, and subsequently its symbolic and subjective aspects were recognized and explored. The authors propose different paradigmatic and methodological approaches as possible research avenues for future studies. |

Além de ser um elemento muito valorizado na cultura brasileira, sendo até apontado como uma forma particular de capital, o corpo movimenta uma grande indústria de produtos e serviços. Visando fornecer subsídios a futuros pesquisadores de estudos de consumo, os autores realizaram levantamento bibliográfico, pela leitura de 79 artigos do tema publicados no JCR, sendo selecionados 45 que abordavam direta ou indiretamente o tema corpo e complementados por artigos nacionais. Os autores concluem inicialmente que se deu a exploração de sua estrutura biológica, ou de caracteres mais tangíveis, e posteriormente, foram reconhecidos e explorados seus aspectos simbólicos e subjetivos.
