THE RENTAL OF INDIGENOUS LANDS AND TERRITORIES IN PARAGUAY

Resumo: The renting of indigenous lands by soya producers and cattle ranchers in Paraguay contradicts the legal guarantees of this country. However, the extension of such phenomenon affects the 60% of the indigenous communities of, for instance, the department of Alto Paraná. This article shows the contradictions between the law, the institutional policies and the way this phenomenon pervades within the Eastern Region of Paraguay. It focuses in Ava and Mbya Guaraní communities showing the consequences in their life conditions and how it determines the possibilities for their self-determination.

No entanto, a sua extensão em alguns casos afeta mais de 60% das aldeias indígenas dos departamentos de Alto Paraná.
