BLACK INTELLECTUAL IN THE SOUTH: THE TRAJECTORY OF OLIVEIRA SILVEIRA

Resumo: Este texto propõem retomar alguns aspectos da trajetória política e intelectual do poeta Oliveira Silveira. Observamos que em sua formação não há uma um matriz discursiva única, e sim um conjunto de influências, oriundas de diferentes pontos do “Atlântico Negro”: africanas, afro-caribenhas e norte-americanas. Ao mesmo tempo percebemos em sua obra a força da dimensão regional, através da sua reinvindicação por uma identidade gaúcha. Enquanto conceituação provisória, propomos situar Oliveira Silveira como um intelectual negro, contemporâneo, híbrido e diaspórico. Seu pensamento e obra representam contribuições importantes para as narrativas sobre a reconfiguração da identidade nacional.Abstract: This text aims at reviewing some aspects of the political and intellectual trajectory of the poet Oliveira Silveira. It has been observed that his educational background is not composed by a unique discursive matrix, but by a variety of influences such as African, Afro-Caribbean and North-American, which are originated from different points of the “Black Atlantic”. In addition to these influences, it is possible to notice in Oliveira’s work the strength of a regional dimension, which can be seen through his claim for an identity based on the state of Rio Grande do Sul. As a provisional conceptualization, it is proposed in this text to place Oliveira Silveira as a black, contemporary, hybrid and diasporic intellectual. His thoughts and work represent important contributions to the narratives about the reconfiguration of the national identity.
