Resumo: | The study deals with faunal remains found in archaeological sites of the Guarani ceramic tradition and the environments in which the sites are inserted. With this purpose there was compared information published on the arqueofauna of 13 sites of the Guarani ceramic tradition: one from São Paulo, one from Santa Catarina, ten from Rio Grande do Sul and one from Argentina. There is a significant amount of published papers dealing with the ceramic manufacture of the mentioned population, but few studies on the settlement's faunal remains. The zooarqueological focus of the analysis of faunal remains provides insides on subsistence patterns, pale ecology and site formation. The data obtained about the site’s arqueofauna allowed the outline of elements of these populations' settlement and their exploitation of the natural resources. The results made evident the preferred search for resources in aquatic habitats and forest formations. The data present a vision of a selective hunting pattern directed to mammals of medium through large size. Based on the data and ecological information of their identified species, one perceives that the settlement was in areas with dense forest formations, always associated with water bodies, enabling the exploration of the varied environments adjacent to the settlement. |

Abstract: The study deals with faunal remains found in archaeological sites of the Guarani ceramic tradition and the environments in which the sites are inserted.
