Resumo: Neste livro, Neves expõe o equívoco em pensar a região amazônica como uma região permanentemente pouco habitada.Com o início da colonização europeia, as populações existentes no local foram sendo dizimadas. Todavia, o estudo de sítios arqueológicos revela a densidade da ocupação humana e a diversidade de formas dessa mesma ocupação na Amazônia pré-colonial. Esses indígenas que ocuparam a Amazônia milênios antes dos europeus são ancestrais dos povos que habitam hoje aquela região. Nesse sentido, segundo ele, “a arqueologia da Amazônia é, antes de tudo, uma espécie de História Antiga, dos povos indígenas da região” Abstract: In this book, Neves exposes the mistake in thinking the Amazon region as a permanently sparsely populated region. With the beginning of the European colonization, the populations existing in the place were being decimated. However, the study of archaeological sites reveals the density of human occupation and the diversity of forms of this occupation in the pre-colonial Amazon. These natives who occupied the Amazon millennia before the Europeans are ancestors of the peoples that inhabit that region today. In this sense, according to him, "the archeology of the Amazon is, first and foremost, a kind of Ancient History of the indigenous peoples of the region"
