Resumo: We discuss the results of the anthracological analysis of two different archaeological contexts in Argentina. The colonial occupation of Mendoza city started in the mid-sixteenth century, and the valley of Ambato in the northwest of the country, which was occupied during the 1st millennium by groups defined as Aguada Culture. We try here a dialogue with some ethnographic and historical sources to discuss the idea of plants as mere resources. We focus particularly on not expectable results in terms of logic that emphasize over economistic or functional issues.

Las ocupaciones coloniales e hispano indígenas de la ciudad de Mendoza iniciadas a mediados del siglo XVI, y del valle de Ambato, en el noroeste argentino, ocupado a lo largo del 1er milenio por grupos que la arqueología definió como Cultura Aguada. Ensayamos aquí un análisis que desplace la mirada de las plantas como meros recursos dialogando con algunas fuentes  etnográficas e históricas. Nos centramos particularmente en resultados “no esperables” en términos de lógicas que enfatizan sobre cuestiones economicistas o funcionales. Abstract: We discuss the results of the anthracological analysis of two different archaeological contexts in Argentina.
