Resumo: The article analyzes discursive formulations and conservative actions linked to the Bolsonaro government and that limit indigenous peoples and their rights today. It aims to problematize these representations mobilized in the press about the “Indians” and the scenario of violation of their rights, also evaluating the attempts to change the structure of FUNAI and its legal-administrative competences in this context. Based on discourse analysis and on ethnographic perspectives, it performs a critical reading of reports and statements reported in between 2018-2019 and the legislation that deals with the indigenous issue in Brazil. Through this, it was possible to evaluate the authoritarian projections and their rhetorical marks in this conservative imaginary, whose statements and their discursive meanings have marked the Brazilian sociopolitical scenario, by potentiating a complex horizon of setbacks against indigenous rights, and that bring profound implications on the direction of democracy in the country.
