Adota como referencial teórico a definição de informação proposta por Silva e Ribeiro (2002) que perspectivam este objeto como um fenômeno humano e social passível de ser comunicada socialmente por meio de seus registros em qualquer suporte. Os mesmos autores perspectivam a Ciência da Informação como uma ciência social aplicada voltada para os problemas, temas e casos que estão relacionados com o fenômeno info-comunicacional. Desta feita, esta área científica possui uma relação interdisciplinar com as ciências sociais e humanas. A pesquisa, portanto, estabeleceu uma relação interdisciplinar com a sociologia e a história em busca de subsídios teóricos que pu-dessem estabelecer uma relação entre os principais conceitos com os quais se fundamentou, a saber: religião, informação e memória. Concluiu-se que a informação em seu formato registrado e sua consequente comunicação no tecido social teve um papel fundamental no processo de secularização da sociedade brasileira principalmente na derrubada da hegemonia da religião católica no campo religioso permitindo a emergência do pluralismo religioso. Adota a pesquisa documental, ao consultar as principais obras historiográficas no que se refere à inserção protestante no Brasil e a função que os impressos dessa confissão exerceram na atividade missionária. Foi identificada, no estudo, a busca pela afirmação de um sentimento de pertencimento empreendida por seus editores a partir das querelas provocadas na imprensa com sacerdotes católicos ultramontanos. Adota a pesquisa de campo em duas instituições de ensino teológico protestantes em Pernambuco, a saber: O Seminário de Educação Cristão (SEC) e o Seminário Presbiteriano do Norte (SPN). Nelas foram aplicadas entrevistas a funcionários que lidam de certa forma com a hemeroteca custodiada nestas instituições. A análise de conteúdo das entrevistas contou com a análise temática - sentidos atribuídos à custódia da hemeroteca protestante – que permitiu identificar que a hemeroteca custodiada nestas institui-ções possibilitou a construção de uma memória que fundamenta a constituição da identidade denominacional aos batistas e presbiterianos em Pernambuco.The descriptive research had the purpose of identifying the performance of a produc-tion and the custody of the Protestant newspaper library in Pernambuco in the main institu-tions of theological teaching of the denominations Baptist and Presbyterian. Addition as theo-retical reference of a teaching proposal by Silva and Ribeiro (2002) that perspective the func-tion as a human and social phenomenon that can be socially communicated through the medi-um of its records in any medium. The autos envisage the Information Science as a social sci-ence and focused on the problems, themes and processes that are related to the information-communicational phenomenon. In this way, this area has an interdisciplinary relationship with the area of social and human sciences. The research, therefore, is an interdisciplinary relation-ship with sociology and a history in search of subsidies that focus on a relationship between the main concepts of search for foundations, knowledge, religion, information and memory. It adopts a documentary research, when consulting like main works historiographical that do not refer to the insertion Protestant in Brazil and that exert the function of confession exercised in the missionary activity. The study identified a search for the affirmation of a sense of entrepreneurial participation by its editors from the quarrels in the press with ultra-Catholic Catholic priests. Field research at two Protestant theo-logical institutions in Pernambuco, a saber: The Christian Education Seminar (SEC) and the Northern Presbyterian Seminary (SPN). In them they were applied interview to employees who deal with a certain way with a custody newspaper library.
