Porém, subgêneros dão conta apenas de elementos superficiais, como estruturas narrativas, ícones e símbolos, ambientação, etc. Penso que tais informações, ainda que bastante úteis, principalmente do ponto de vista da indústria, que necessita de referências sinópticas para facilitar seu consumo e até mesmo aferir demanda, é incompleta. Portanto, esta pesquisa tem como objetivo apresentar um conjunto de categorias alternativas aos subgêneros, tendo como ponto de partida as filmografias de três autores consagrados do cinema de horror: John Carpenter, Wes Craven e David Cronenberg. As categorias aqui apresentadas foram elaboradas através da identificação, conceituação e análise de determinados leitmotiv recorrentes na história do gênero: a potencialidade de cada filme, como o voyeurismo do falso real, o retorno do recalcado, imprevisibilidade da natureza, traumas de infância, solidão e paranóia, entre outros, bem como seus diversos modelos, variações e construções que se fazem perceber em determinados filmes, dentre eles a seleção de obras dos autores utilizados como referencia nesta dissertação.CNPqThe horror cinema comprises a vast array of subgenres that act like semi-independent fictional universes, gifted with conventions that control the choices of the genre’s authors. But subgenres can only do that much, informing of superficial elements such as narrative structures, icons, symbols and ambiance. I think that such data, though useful specially to the industry viewpoint, that needs the synoptic references that facilitates their consumation and even to determine demand, it’s incomplete. Therefore, this research intends to present a group of alternative categories to the subgenres, starting with the filmographies of three of the most notorious filmmakers of the genre: John Carpenter, Wes Craven and David Cronenberg.
