Este trabalho analisa de que forma a mídia local posicionou-se a respeito do assunto no primeiro ano da epidemia, um período marcado por incertezas tanto em relação à circulação do vírus novo em solo nacional quanto com relação às consequências causadas por este. Para tanto, utilizamos como objeto de pesquisa o jornal Folha de Pernambuco, por se tratar do impresso de maior audiência do estado que foi epicentro da epidemia. Analisamos 418 publicações – entre reportagens, notícias, artigos, editoriais e entrevistas –, que constituíram o nosso corpus amplo, que foi sistematizado previamente em categorias temáticas, quantificado e hierarquizado. Nesse primeiro momento, o intuito era obter uma visão mais ampla da cobertura e localizar os temas de maior repercussão. Em um segundo momento, analisamos discursivamente apenas os editoriais do período – nosso corpus restrito. Como base teórico-metodológica, a pesquisa utiliza estudos de Bakhtin sobre linguagem, especialmente a teoria/análise dialógica, noções de Alsina sobre a construção da notícia, estudos de Foucault sobre discurso e o conceito de sistemas peritos, proposto por Giddens. Dentre os resultados obtidos, foi possível identificar um resgate da memória discursiva da Revolta da Vacina (1904), a partir da qual o veículo tentou estabelecer uma comparação entre as ações de enfrentamento das epidemias do governo de Rodrigues Alves e de Dilma Rousseff. Além disso, outros posicionamentos foram observados, como o aconselhamento ao adiamento da gravidez no período e a posição contrária ao aborto como alternativa.FACEPEThe emergence of the Zika virus in Brazil and the suspicions surrounding its association with the birth of babies with microcephaly caught the world’s attention in the years of 2015 and 2016. The present work analyses the position of the local media regarding the subject during the first year of the epidemic, a period characterised by uncertainty both in relation to the spread of the new virus in the country as well as the consequences that it could cause. For that purpose, we draw on the newspaper Folha de Pernambuco as our research object, given it is the periodical with the wider audience in the state of Pernambuco, the epicentre of the epidemic. We analyse 418 publications – including news reports, articles, editorials and interviews –, which constituted our broad corpus, having been previously organised, quantified and hierarchized into topic categories. In this first stage, the aim was to acquire a wider view of the media coverage and to pinpoint the most discussed topics. In a second stage, we carry a discursive analysis focusing on the editorials of the chosen period – our restricted corpus. As for the methodology, the research draws on Bakthin’s studies on language, particularly the dialogic theory/analysis, Alsina’s notion of news construction, Foucault’s studies on discourse, and the concept of expert systems proposed by Giddens. Amongst the findings, it was possible to identify a sort of reclaim of the discursive memory of the Vacina Insurrection (1904), from which the newspaper tried to establish a comparison between the coping actions put in place by the governments of Rodrigues Alves and Dilma Rousseff.
