Estes estudos se ativeram aos produtos finais, em geral, instrumentos unifaciais e bifaciais. Pesquisas arqueológicas sistemáticas na região desde a década de 1980, buscando informações sobre os grupos pré-históricos responsáveis pelos registros rupestres, foram responsáveis por exumar artefatos líticos de sítios de abrigo sob rocha. Recentemente, a identificação de fragmentos cerâmicos e lascas de sílex dispersos ao redor de concentrações circulares de blocos de quartzo com fraturas térmicas suscitou o interesse por sítios pré-históricos a céu aberto. Este trabalho teve como objetivo comparar as indústrias líticas dos sítios de abrigo sob rocha, Pedra do Alexandre, Olho d’Água das Gatas e Pedra do Chinelo, com a indústria lítica do sítio a céu aberto Baixa do Umbuzeiro. Para tal, foram usados os conceitos incorporados na Cadeia Operatória e a noção tecno-funcional. O uso e a atividade de alguns instrumentos foram identificados através da traceologia. Não foram notadas diferenças nas escolhas morfológicas dos instrumentos, nos métodos e técnicas nas coleções dos quatro sítios. No entanto, foi demonstrado que há distinções na aquisição e na gestão de matérias primas exógenas entre os dois tipos de ocupação.CNPqFew studies on the lithic industries were carried out from a technological perspective in the archaeological area of Seridó. These studies have focused on end products, in general, unifacial and bifacial tools. Systematic archaeological research in the region since the 1980s, on the search for information on the prehistoric groups responsible for rock records, was responsible for exhuming lithic artifacts from sheltered sites. Recently, the identification of pottery fragments and flint flakes dispersed around circular concentrations of quartz blocks with thermal fractures has aroused interest in prehistoric open-air sites. This work aimed to compare the lithic industries of the shelters, Pedra do Alexandre, Olho d'Água das Gatas and Pedra do Chinelo, with the lithic industry of the open air site Baixa do Umbuzeiro. To that end, the concepts incorporated in the Chaîne Opératoire and the techno-functional notion were used. The use and activity of some stone tools were identified through use-wear analysis. No differences were noted in the morphological choices of the stone tools, in the methods and techniques in the collections of the four sites.
