A trajetória do contato dos Yawanawa com os “brancos” se inicia com a explosão do valor econômico da borracha e a chegada de grandes levas de seringueiros na região da bacia do Juruá nos últimos anos do século XIX. Atados a economia da borracha e ludibriados por missionários evangélicos, os Yawanawa conheceriam nos finais da década de 70 a Comissão Pró Índio do Acre (CPI-AC), instituição que denunciou os patrões seringalistas e aproximou representantes de etnias aos centros urbanos os auxiliando a entrar no emergente movimento indígena. Participando de assembleias e convivendo com outras lideranças Biraci Brasil, sobrinho do então chefe Yawanawa, vai ao Rio de Janeiro e durante a ECO-92 garante um projeto de plantação de urucum com a empresa de cosméticos AVEDA, que reuniria novamente os Yawanawa antes dispersos pela região. Como desdobramentos da delimitação do território, da conscientização dos “direitos indígenas” e das novas possibilidades para obtenção de recursos advindas com o movimento eco-humanista, os Yawanawa iniciam a “revitalização” de suas tradições. Vários indígenas passaram a se dedicar a sua “cultura” registrando o conhecimento dos mais velhos, retomando práticas xamânicas, recriando rituais. No ano 2002 a aldeia iniciou o Festival Yawa, evento de celebração da cultura Yawanawa que conta na atualidade com a participação de pessoas de vários países interessados principalmente nas práticas xamânicas Yawanawa. Considerando em sua amplitude o desenvolvimento histórico das relações entre “brancos” e “indígenas” busco compreender a revitalização cultural Yawanawa a partir das corespondências entre relações interétnicas e cultura.CAPESThe aim of the following research is to establish a comprehension on the process of “renew of culture and traditions” of the Yawanawa. The contact of Yawanawa with the “whites” began during the boom of the economic value of the rubber and the arrival of large quantities of rubber tappers in the region of the Jurua basin in the last years of the XIX. Trapped to the rubber economy and hoodwinked by protestant missionaries the Yawanawa would meet at the end of the 70's the Comissão Pró Indío do Acre (CPI-AC). This institution denounced the rubber patrons, and brought members of indigenous tribes to the urban areas intended to help them to enter in the arisen indigenous movement. Participating in conferences and sharing experiences with other leaders Biraci Brasil, nephew of the before chief Yawanawa, goes to Rio de Janeiro and during the e ECO-92 and established a project in association with AVEDA for the cultivation of urucum that would reunite again the Yawanawa. With the delimitation of their territory, the awareness of “indigenous rights” and the new possibilities to obtain resources from the contemporary eco-humanist movement, the Yawanawa began the revitalization of their traditions. Many natives began to dedicate themselves to their “culture” by recording their knowledge with the elders, initiating on shamanic practices and recreating rituals. In the year 2002 the aldeia Nova Esperança began the Yawa Festival, event of celebration of Yawanawa's culture that nowadays attracts many people from other countries interested in experience the Yawanawa's shamanism.
