Os bancos de dados e imagens de um período médio de 7 meses dessas clínicas foram acessados retrospectivamente nos computadores conectados aos aparelhos tomográficos utilizados na presente pesquisa, que foram o i-CAT e PreXion 3D. Todos os exames incluídos estavam salvos nesses computadores. Os motivos das repetições foram avaliados pela pesquisadora juntamente com os operadores dos tomógrafos. Todos os dados clínicos e imaginológicos obtidos foram tabulados e submetidos à análise estatística descritiva e dos testes qui-quadrado de Pearson ou exato de Fisher. Um total de 2696 pacientes foram incluídos na pesquisa, correspondendo a 1241 com exames realizados no tomógrafo i-CAT e 1455 no PreXion 3D. A idade dos pacientes variou entre 3 e 91 anos, com uma média de 48,7 anos, e a maioria era do sexo feminino (63%). As indicações que tiveram maior prevalência foram endodontia (42%), implante (37%) e avaliação de terceiro molar (6%). As regiões mais escaneadas pelos tomógrafos foram maxila (53%) e mandíbula (34%). O percentual de repetições foi de 19,8%, sendo observadas de uma a onze repetições do exame no mesmo paciente. O motivo de repetição que mais ocorreu foi a movimentação do paciente (65%), seguido do motivo “não justificado” (16%) e imagem cortada (11%). Quando os grupos de indicação foram associados com o tipo de tomógrafo onde foi realizada a aquisição, foram encontradas prevalências significativamente maiores de exames no tomógrafo i-CAT para as categorias “indicação não informada”, Dolphin, dor/parestesia, seios maxilares, articulação temporomandibular, cirurgia, ortodontia e avaliação geral, e no tomógrafo PreXion nos grupos de endodontia e implante. Pacientes com idade inferior a 10 anos, com indicação para endodontia, implante ou avaliação de terceiro molar, que realizaram o exame tomográfico no tomógrafo PreXion apresentaram um percentual maior de repetições (p < 0,05), havendo também uma diferença significativa entre as clínicas avaliadas. Conclui-se que a prevalência de repetições em exames de TCFC foi alta, havendo uma diferença significativa entre as clínicas avaliadas. A causa mais frequente das repetições foi a movimentação do paciente e há uma maior prevalência de repetições para pacientes com idade inferior a 10 anos, com indicação para tratamento endodôntico, colocação de implantes e avaliação de terceiros molares, e no tomógrafo PreXion.CAPESThe aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and reasons for repetition of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) exams in three dental radiology services, checking for possible associations between the indication groups of the exams with the tomograph where the acquisition was performed, and between repetitions with the age of the patients, the indications for the exams, the dental radiology clinic and the tomographic device used. The databases and images of an average period of 7 months of these clinics were accessed retrospectively on the computers connected to the tomographic devices used in the present research, which were the i-CAT and PreXion 3D. All included exams were saved on these computers. The reasons for the repetitions were evaluated by the researcher together with the operators of the tomographs. All clinical and imaging data obtained were tabulated and submitted to descriptive statistical analysis and Pearson's chi-square or Fisher's exact tests. A total of 2696 patients were included in the survey, corresponding to 1241 with examinations performed on the i-CAT scanner and 1455 on the PreXion 3D. The age of the patients ranged between 3 and 91 years, with an average of 48.7 years, and the majority were female (63%). The most prevalent indications were endodontics (42%), implant (37%) and third molar evaluation (6%). The regions most scanned by CBCT scanners were maxilla (53%) and mandible (34%). The percentage of repetitions was 19.8%, with one to eleven repetitions of the exam being observed in the same patient. The repetition reason that most occurred was the patient's movement (65%), followed by the “not justified” reason (16%) and cut image (11%). When the indication groups were associated with the type of CBCT scanner where the acquisition was performed, significantly higher prevalences of exams were found on the i-CAT scanner for the categories “uninformed indication”, Dolphin, pain / paresthesia, maxillary sinuses, temporomandibular joint, surgery, orthodontics and general evaluation, and on the PreXion tomograph in the endodontic and implant groups. Patients under the age of 10 years, with an indication for endodontics, implantation or third molar evaluation, who underwent the tomographic examination on the PreXion tomography had a higher percentage of repetitions (p <0.05), with a significant difference between clinics evaluated. It is concluded that the prevalence of repetitions in CBCT exams was high, with a significative difference between the clinics evaluated.
