Tais interações, não se limitam, mas podem envolver a disputa por parceiros sexuais. Em crustáceos simbiontes, os principais fatores que influenciam o comportamento social das populações e, consequentemente, o sucesso na obtenção de cópula são as características dos simbiontes (morfológicas e ecológicas) e os níveis de predação. Contudo, para garantir o sucesso reprodutivo os indivíduos não dependem apenas de realizar a cópula. O sucesso reprodutivo de fêmeas de diversas espécies de vertebrados e invertebrados aquáticos parece estar relacionado com a liberação dos gametas e larvas no ambiente em sincronia com variáveis ambientais que favorecem o desenvolvimento e a dispersão da prole. Considerando isto, este estudo teve como objetivos (I) investigar o sistema de acasalamento e (II) analisar o ciclo reprodutivo a fim de investigar a existência de sincronia reprodutiva com o ciclo das marés dentro e entre as populações de Alpheus estuariensis e Salmoneus carvachoi, dois camarões alfeídeos simbiontes. Para isso, foi (I) investigado o padrão de utilização do refúgio e aspectos populacionais das duas espécies e (II) se a variação das marés influencia o período em que as fêmeas se tornam sexualmente receptivas e o período em que as larvas são liberadas no ambiente. Houve baixa correlação positiva de tamanho entre os indivíduos das duas espécies encontrados na mesma galeria. Indivíduos de A. estuariensis e S. carvachoi foram encontrados em pares com frequência maior do que a esperada ao acaso. Os pares heterossexuais de A. estuariensis e os pares compostos por dois camarões hermafroditas em S. carvachoi apresentaram alta correlação positiva de tamanho. Nossos resultados sugerem A. estuariensis possui comportamento monogâmico, enquanto S. carvachoi possui comportamento poliginândrico. Além disso, nossos resultados sugerem que A. estuariensis libera suas larvas durante as marés de sizígia durante o período chuvoso e se reproduz independente do ciclo das marés. Salmoneus carvachoi tende a liberar suas larvas e se reproduzir durante as sizígias. Por fim, concluímos que apesar de serem duas espécies que compartilham o mesmo habitat e estão sob as mesmas influências ambientais, A. estuariensis e S. carvachoi possuem estratégias reprodutivas distintas.FACEPEPopulation and environmental characteristics are responsible for determining the frequency of social interactions among individuals in a population. Such interactions are not limited to, but may envolve dispute for sexual partners. In symbiotic crustaceans, the main factors that influence the social behavior the individuals and, consequently, their mating success are their symbionts characteristics (morphological and ecological) and the levels of predation pressure. However, to achieve reproductive success, the parties do not depend exclusively on mating. Female’s reproductive success of several species of aquatic vertebrates and invertebrates seems to be depedent on gametes and larval releasing into environment in synchrony with environmental variables that favor the development and dispersion of offspring. Considering it, this study aimed (I) to investigate the mating system and (II) the existence of reproductive synchrony with the tidal cycle within and between the populations of Alpheus estuariensis and Salmoneus carvachoi, two symbiont alpheid shrimps. For this reason, it was investigated (I) the refuge-use pattern and populational aspects of the two species, and (II) whether the tidal variation influences the period in which the females become sexually receptive and the period when the larvae are released into the environment. There was a low positive correlation of size between the individuals of the two species found in the same burrow. Individuals of A. estuariensis and S. carvachoi were found in pairs with a frequency higher than expected by chance alone. The heterosexual pairs of A. estuariensis and the pairs of two hermaphrodite shrimps in S. carvachoi showed a high positive correlation of size between conspecifics. Our results suggest that A. estuariensis is monogamous, while S. carvachoi has a polygynandric behavior. In addition, our results suggest that A. estuariensis releases its larvae during the syzygy tides only in the rainy season and reproduces independently of the tidal cycle. Salmoneus carvachoi is prone to release its larvae and reproduce only during the syzyges.
