Exibe uma grande diversidade morfológica, sendo considerado o grupo taxonomicamente mais complexo nas Acanthaceae, e as relações infratribais têm sido alvo de discussão desde suas primeiras propostas. O objetivo desse estudo foi inventariar e caracterizar as espécies ocorrentes no Nordeste Oriental do Brasil, com enfoque para os estudos morfológicos e palinológicos. A área de estudo está situada nos domínios fitogeográficos da Mata Atlântica e da Caatinga, compreendendo os estados de Alagoas, Ceará, Paraíba, Pernambuco e Rio Grande do Norte. Foram analisadas as coleções de 22 herbários, além de expedições de campo. As amostras coletadas foram herborizadas e depositadas no herbário UFP, com duplicatas enviadas aos principais herbários do Nordeste e Sudeste do Brasil. Com isso, foram registradas 20 espécies distribuídas em seis gêneros: Anisacanthus (A. trilobus), Dicliptera (D. ciliaris), Harpochilus (2spp.), Justicia (13spp.), Pseuderanthemum (2spp.) e Thyrsacanthus (T. ramosissimus). Duas são novas ocorrências para a área de estudo: P. modestum e J. sphaerosperma, sendo esta última um novo registro para o Nordeste. Justicia rubrobracteata Alcantara & G. Soares, um novo táxon para a ciência, foi encontrado em áreas de Caatinga na Paraíba e Rio Grande do Norte. Foram realizadas análises palinológicas das espécies, com descrição dos grãos de pólen. Os grãos de pólen de Justicia chamaedryoides, J. congrua, Justicia glaziovii, J. sphaerosperma, J. thunbergioides, Pseuderanthemum congestum e P. modestum foram descritos aqui pela primeira vez. A partir do tipo de abertura e ornamentação da exina, aliado a estudos filogenéticos disponíveis na literatura, foi possível propor uma nova combinação de Justicia angustissima sob Thyrsacanthus angustissimus (A.L.A. Côrtes & Rapini) Alcantara & Alves.CAPESJusticieae comprises over 100 genera and about 2000 species. with pantropical distribution. It exhibits a great morphological diversity, being considered the most complex taxonomically group in the Acanthaceae, and the infra-tribal relations have been the subject of discussion since its first classifications. The objective of this study was to inventory and characterize the species that occur in the Eastern Northeast of Brazil, focus on morphological and palynological studies. The study area is located in the Atlantic Forest and Caatinga phytogeographic domains, comprising the states of Alagoas, Ceará, Paraíba, Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Norte. The collections of 22 herbariums were analyzed, as well as field expeditions were done. Samples collected were herborized and deposited in the UFP herbarium, with duplicates sent to the main herbaria of the Northeast and Southeast. From the type of opening, and exine ornamentation, together with phylogenetic studies available in the literature, it was possible to propose a new combination of Justicia angustissima about Thyrsacanthus angustissimus (A.L.A.
