Tal dilema consiste no entendimento da política democrática como locus de antagonismos. Isso quer dizer que o conflito e o dissenso são elementos fundamentais da democracia. Nesse sentido, os antagonismos podem ser caracterizados pela forte oposição conflitiva entre nós/eles. Entretanto, o antagonismo não precisa ser aniquilador. As relações agonísticas são relações que mantém em aberto o conflito antagônico sem necessariamente levar à aniquilação. Isso porque, as relações agonísticas transformam as relações de inimigos (antagonismos) em relações de adversários. Essa transformação adversarial ocorre necessariamente pelo reconhecimento de um fundamento comum a todos. Todavia, não é possível identificar dentro da democracia radical a constatação de qual seria esse fundamento comum. A hipótese defendida é que a noção de precariedade formulada por Judith Butler pode ser tida como o fundamento dessas relações. Isso porque a precariedade é uma condição generalizada que releva a nossa necessidade de outras pessoas a fim de suprir uma determinada falta. Assim, a precariedade engloba as necessidades fisiológicas e afetivas que temos de outras pessoas. A precariedade, portanto, revela que somos faltantes e incompletos. Desse modo, a generalidade da precariedade estimula a oposição à violência dirigida a outros, mesmo quando esses outros estão longe de nós ou não parecem compartilhar nenhum dos nossos valores. Isso em vista, a precariedade pode ser entendida como o fundamento das relações agonísticas, uma vez que ela é a rubrica que possibilita a união das mais diversas posições políticas e identitárias. Por fim, vale ressaltar, a relação entre precariedade e relações agonísticas revela o projeto butleriano de teorizar a coalizão como uma alternativa possível e desejável na política democrática.CAPESRadical Democracy is a political theory that has as its central problem the plural dilemma. This dilemma consists in understanding democratic politics as a locus of antagonisms. This means that conflict and dissensus are fundamental elements of democracy. In this sense, antagonisms can be characterized by the strong conflictive opposition between us/them. However, antagonism need not be annihilating. Agonistic relations are relations that keep the antagonistic conflict open without necessarily leading to annihilation. This is because, agonistic relations transform enemy relations (antagonism) into adversarial relations. This adversarial transformation necessarily occurs through the recognition of a common ground to all. However, it is not possible to identify within Radical Democracy the verification of what this common ground would be. The hypothesis defended is that the notion of precariousnessformulated by Judith Butler can be taken as the foundation of these relations. This is because precarity is a generalized condition that highlights our need for other people in order to supply a certain lack. Thus, precarity encompasses the physiological and affective needs we have for other people. Precariousness, therefore, reveals that we are lacking and incomplete. In this way, the generality of precarity stimulates opposition to violence directed at others, even when these others are far from us or do not seem to share any of our values. In view of this, precarity can be understood as the foundation of agonistic relations, since it is the rubric that makes possible the union of the most diverse political and identity positions.
