Resumo: O presente trabalho apresenta um recorte de uma pesquisa de mestrado que está sendo realizada no Programa de Pós- Graduação em Educação da Universidade Federal de Pelotas (PPGE/FaE/UFPel), ligada a linha de pesquisa Narrativas (auto)biográficas, cultura escrita, linguagem e inclusão, junto ao Centro de memória e pesquisa História da Alfabetização, Leitura, Escrita e dos Livros Escolares (Hisales). Na pesquisa de mestrado mencionada, atualmente são participantes quinze estudantes rurais do curso de Licenciatura em Pedagogia da UFPel, no entanto, este texto tem como objetivo analisar quais as motivações dos primeiros cinco estudantes entrevistados para a escolha do curso.
