Resumo: A Oktoberfest de Igrejinha-RS ocorre anualmente desde 1988 e tem como principal objetivo a rememoração da cultura germânica trazida pelos imigrantes que colonizaram a região, no século XIX. Com expressivo número de visitantes e muitas melhorias em sua programação feitas a cada ano, acrescido ainda o titulo de Patrimônio Cultural do estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Esta pesquisa tem a finalidade de compreender como a Oktoberfest articula noções de tradição, retradicionalização, invenção da tradição e patrimônio cultural na cidade de igrejinha-RS.A pesquisa foi delineada conforme os registros da festa através de fotografias e materiais gráficos, bem como notícias de jornais, incluídas no acervo da Associação dos Amigos da Oktoberfest e entrevistas. Os questionamentos permearam os elementos culturais que estariam em evidência; de que maneira foi articulada a programação da festa no processo de retradicionalização e invenção da tradição para que continuasse ocorrendo e de que forma auxilia no processo atual. A metodologia foi alicerçada mesclando elementos de etnografia, história oral, pesquisa documental e jornalística. A dissertação está separada em três capítulos, sendo eles: a história do município, a história da Oktoberfest e tradição. Autores como Grützmann, Dreher, Feldens, Engelmann, Arévalo, Lenclud e Machuca nortearão a análise.

The festival is utterly important for the city and the region development, as it has a large number of visitors and its attractions are being improved continuously. Besides that, the festival holds the title of Cultural Heritage of Rio Grande do Sul. This project has been produced with the aim of understanding how the festival articulates the notions of tradition, re-traditionalization, invention of tradition and Cultural Heritage in Igrejinha. This research has been designed according to the records of the previous parties, which are photographs, newspaper reports from Association of Friends of the Oktoberfest, and interviews. There have been some questions regarding some of the cultural aspects: how was the festival set up in order that it would keep on being held and how useful is it nowadays. The methodology has been based on different elements of ethnography, oral history, documentary research and news. The thesis is divided into three chapters, namely the history of the city, the history of Oktoberfest, and tradition.
