Resumo: The elaboration of an environmental zoning is an important tool to subsidize a handling plan and the management of protected areas. In this paper a methodology was established to proceeds environmental zoning having the environmental legislation as criteria to process a digital database GIS-supported (GIS – Geographical Information System). The study area was the south part of the Chapada Diamantina National Park. The database used to produces the environmental zoning map consist of vegetation, soil use, topographic features, hydric resources, scenic beautiful, and tourist, historical and archeological potential areas. The technical support assured by the GIS process were revealed essential to develop this methodology. They provided consistent and expressed overall results, beside the similar point with the landscape reality that was identified in the area of this paper.

They provided consistent and expressed overall results, beside the similar point with the landscape reality that was identified in the area of this paper.A elaboração do zoneamento ambiental é um importante instrumento para subsidiar planos de manejo e gestão de áreas protegidas, sendo previsto no Sistema Nacional de Unidades de Conservação e no Regulamento para Parques Nacionais. Neste trabalho foi desenvolvida na parte sul do Parque Nacional da Chapada Diamantina, na Bahia, uma metodologia para estabelecer o zoneamento que utiliza os critérios expressos na legislação como elemento delineador de processamentos digitais apoiados em Sistemas de Informações Geográficas – SIG’s. Foram utilizados dados relativos à vegetação, uso do solo, feições topográficas, usos pretéritos e atuais, recursos hídricos, beleza cênica, potencial turístico, histórico e arqueológico, que possibilitaram a geração do mapa de zoneamento ambiental.
