Resumo: The present study, based on the theoretical-analytical assumptions of the Materialist Discourse Analysis, aims to understand the discursive functioning of two statements formulated by Jair Messias Bolsonaro when referring to two national tragedies: in September 2018, with the fire of the National Museum, and in April 2020, with the increasing number of deaths by Covid-19 in Brazil. The analysis is justified by observing the same syntactic-semantic structure in the formulations, which are organized, according to our interpretive gesture, in four positions. With the description and interpretation of the two sequences, it is possible to affirm that the statements reproduce senses that are organized by a neoliberal discursive formation, which reproduces, through the subject-position with which the subject-enunciator is identified to, what we are calling the ideology of destruction. For the development of the analysis, considering the emergence of the significant “messiah” in the two sequences, said in different moments, we mobilized the notion of preconstructed, and, also, we introduced a theorization about the given name according to Mariani (2014).
