Resumo: ABSTRACT: This is descriptive research with a qualitativeapproach, which aimed to investigate women’s perceptionregarding male participation in family planning. Interviewswere held with 20 women in February – July 2012, in acenter of excellence in reproductive care, in the state ofCeará. Two categories emerged from the accounts: Thepartner’s contribution in contraception and What dowomen think regarding the man’s participation in familyplanning? The women perceive the men’s participation asinsufficient, and believe that a more effective contributionwould include the partners accompanying them tothe consultations. They recognize this contribution asimportant, but some show acceptance in relation to theman’s absence, and do not demand this involvement. In making their selections on their own, and takingresponsibility for the contraception, the women absolvethe partners from an attribution which is of both, reinforcing the socially constructed and – consciously orunconsciously – accepted idea that it is they who are givenresponsibility for reproductive matters.

Universidade Federal do ParanáCruz, Rachelde Morais, Ana Cláudia BritoPinto, Sarah de LimaAmorim, Ludwig Tenório Cruz GomesSampaio, Karla Jimena de Araújo Jesus2014-12-19info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionPesquisa qualitativaapplication/pdfapplication/pdfhttps://revistas.ufpr.br/cogitare/article/view/3708610.5380/ce.v19i4.37086Cogitare Enfermagem; v. 19, n. 4 (2014)Cogitare Enfermagem; v. 19, n. 4 (2014)Cogitare Enfermagem; v. 19, n. 4 (2014)2176-91331414-853610.5380/ce.v19i4reponame:Cogitare Enfermagem (Online)instname:Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR)instacron:UFPRporenghttps://revistas.ufpr.br/cogitare/article/view/37086/23901https://revistas.ufpr.br/cogitare/article/view/37086/23900https://revistas.ufpr.br/cogitare/article/downloadSuppFile/37086/18506https://revistas.ufpr.br/cogitare/article/downloadSuppFile/37086/18507https://revistas.ufpr.br/cogitare/article/downloadSuppFile/37086/18508https://revistas.ufpr.br/cogitare/article/downloadSuppFile/37086/18539https://revistas.ufpr.br/cogitare/article/downloadSuppFile/37086/18554https://revistas.ufpr.br/cogitare/article/downloadSuppFile/37086/18555https://revistas.ufpr.br/cogitare/article/downloadSuppFile/37086/18556https://revistas.ufpr.br/cogitare/article/downloadSuppFile/37086/18561https://revistas.ufpr.br/cogitare/article/downloadSuppFile/37086/18984https://revistas.ufpr.br/cogitare/article/downloadSuppFile/37086/18985https://revistas.ufpr.br/cogitare/article/downloadSuppFile/37086/18986info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2021-12-07T20:38:02Zoai:revistas.ufpr.br:article/37086Revistahttps://revistas.ufpr.br/cogitare/indexPUBhttps://revistas.ufpr.br/cogitare/oaicogitare@ufpr.br2176-91331414-8536opendoar:2021-12-07T20:38:02Cogitare Enfermagem (Online) - Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR)false
