WOMEN PERCEPTION REGARDING PAPANICOLAOU TEST: FROM OBSERVATION TO UNDERSTANDING

Resumo: The uterine cervix cancer is the one that most affects women and each year the number of new casesincrease. This study aimed to evaluate the perception of women about the Pap test. Data collection was developed usingsemi-structured interviews. There were 22 participants which were attended by the mobile unit of a municipality in ParanaState. Data were analyzed through content analysis, and then some categories emerged: the superficiality of knowledgeabout the Pap test of the professional who performs the procedure; the appreciation and recognition of the nurse; and theimportance of information for knowledge construction. According to the results of the study, the interviewed women havea superficial and equivocated understanding about the Papanicolaou test, and want to take the test because of its curativeaspect rather than the preventive aspect; also, the nurse has a key role in creating a link of confidence between the userand the health professional, and that information is very important in the construction of knowledge.

Elpresente estudio objetivó evaluar la percepción de las mujeres frente al examen de Papanicolaou. En la recolección dedatos fue utilizada la entrevista semiestructurada. Las participantes fueron 22 mujeres atendidas por la unidad móvil de unmunicipio de Paraná. Los datos fueron analizados utilizando el análisis de contenido, que posibilitó algunas categorías: lasuperficialidad del saber delante del examen de Papanicolaou; la valoración y reconocimiento de la enfermera; la importanciade la información para la construcción del conocimiento. Según los resultados del estudio las mujeres comprenden elexamen de Papanicolaou de forma superficial y equivocada, buscándolo más por su aspecto curativo que preventivo y deque la enfermera tiene un papel para la creación de vínculo de confianza entre usuario y profesional de la salud y que lainformación es imprescindible en la construcción del conocimiento.O câncer de colo de útero é o que mais atinge mulheres e a cada ano o surgimento de casos aumenta. O presenteestudo objetivou avaliar a percepção das mulheres frente ao exame de Papanicolaou. Na coleta de dados utilizou-se aentrevista semiestruturada. As participantes foram 22 mulheres atendidas pela unidade móvel de um município do Paraná.Os dados foram analisados usando a análise de conteúdo que possibilitou algumas categorias: a superficialidade do saberfrente ao exame de Papanicolaou; a valorização e reconhecimento da enfermeira; a importância da informação para aconstrução do conhecimento.
