Modeling Re-emission Thermic Effect in Artificial Satellites Abstract In this work, we model and analyze the day-night and summer-winter forces, which are the components of the total reemission force, for the LAGEOS and GPS satellites. The radial, transversal and normal components of the thermal reemission acceleration are analyzed as a function of the satellite dimensions and its altitude, for a test-satellite with LAGEOS data. We find a selection law that associates the satellites dimension and its altitude to the intensity of the net force, and which determinates when the thermal reemission effect has a maximum. Moreover, the thermal model applied to the LAGEOS results in na intricate behavior of the along-track acceleration component, along the years, which depends fundamentally on the spin axis inclination regarding to the heat sources, in this case, the Earth and the Sun. This behavior can be predicted from the equations presented here, and so, anomalous behaviors of the thermal reemission acceleration can be explained without the new non-gravitational forces being introduced, or without the well-known perturbation forces being remodeled. The intricate behavior of the along-track acceleration for the LAGEOS satellite is associated to the lack of altitude control, which leads to a complex spinorbit geometry, that results from the combination of several cyclic changes as the satellites goes through translation and rotation. On the other hand, a satellite like GPS, that is three axis stabilized will present plain spin-orbit configurations if compared to the LAGEOS. The panels and the body of the satellite are treated separately and the contribution of each one is analyzed taking into account the two main heat sources, Earth and Sun. The outcome being that the orbital deviations are meter sized after four days of integration, and can get to the magnitude of the Y-bias according to the thermal conductivity value on satellite surface. To conclude, with the Poynting-Robertson effect, associated to the thermal reemission effect, is modeled and applied to both satellites, LAGEOS and GPS, with the purpose to obtain an estimate of its magnitude and its role in the context of non-gravitational forces. |
