The present work aimed to understand the different representations of São Pedro dos Pescadores de Jurujuba Festival, Niterói, RJ, from the interpretation of mental maps. Starting from the conception that the Feast is a social production that generates several material and immaterial products, including identity, this research purpose is understanding how the Feast is perceived by youth. To reach it, an activity was chosen for the 9th grade class of the elementary school, in a public educational institution in the neighborhood. Thus, it was sought, here, to understand how the subjects experience, signify and represent the Feast through the interpretation of mental images / maps of the students. Based on Kozel methodology, which is based on phenomenology, and the theoretical dialogic support of cultural geography, this work sought to relate the themes of feast, identity, representation, memory, imaginary, mental maps, and highlight the dynamics of culture, emphasizing the importance of not understanding it in a cast. The basis proposed by Kozel (2001) (subject / sign / image) builds a symbolic representation that is sought here to develop from the decoding of mental maps made by students. The geographic, linguistic, and social psychology sciences dialogue in this work in order to show that representations are social and cultural constructions.
