Cases of Flooding are very common in Brazil, especially in cities that originated near large rivers. As a result of river flooding, floods cause damages and socioeconomic losses when major floods occur, and the elaboration of control measures must consider the hydrographic basins over which urbanization develops. In the preparation of this study, we sought to analyze the causes of flooding in the municipality of Lavras da Mangabeira, Ceará, throughs data collection and simulations using IPHS1 software. The IPHS1 hydrological model is able to simulate the observed hydrograph and provide flow values that, despite the limitations of data and software resources, allow to analyze the area in question. The results obtained configure the basin with a median tendency to flood, but with a large contribution area, low slope and high concentration time, which favor the situation of overflowing of the channel trough, causing flooding.
