Defesa : Curitiba, 10/02/2023Inclui referênciasResumo: A presente dissertação aborda o problema da unidade da obra musical tomando como base a Metafísica de Aristóteles. A busca por investigar o problema da unidade a partir de uma perspectiva filosófica respondeu à necessidade de produzir um certo distanciamento crítico que permitisse reavaliar ideias que encontramos no interior do campo da música e que tendemos a compreender como verdades universais. Embora tenhamos encontrado alguns caminhos que possibilitaram relativizar a unidade como virtude ou como condição necessária da obra musical em textos de Kenneth Stampp, o estudo da Metafísica de Aristóteles foi fundamental para compreender que a unidade não é atributo necessário a toda e qualquer forma de existência. A partir de alguns textos aristotélicos complementares, como o livro VIII da Política, foi possível recuperar o sentido de música como atividade (energeia), o que permitiu contemplarmos dois sentidos de obra musical, imanente e transcendente. O sentido imanente diz respeito ao fenômeno sonoro que pode ser cientificamente aferido, ao passo que o sentido transcendente contempla a experiência estética e as mudanças efetivas que esta é capaz de produzir no interior do campo simbólico. Muito embora tenhamos abordado a dimensão simbólica da unidade no último capítulo, tal distinção contribuiu para uma formulação mais precisa do problema inicial desta investigação, a saber: em que sentido uma obra musical, no seu aspecto imanente, pode ser una?, revelando a necessidade de abordarmos, em futuros trabalhos, a unidade da obra em seu sentido transcendente. O trabalho apresenta uma revisão de alguns textos clássicos da área de Música que fazem menção à unidade, contemplando textos de Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Donald Grout e Claude Palisca, Arnold Schoenberg, Igor Stravinsky e Karlheinz Stockhausen, e problematiza a ideia de obra musical a partir de leituras de Roman Ingarden e Carl Dahlhaus. A pesquisa buscou contribuir com a discussão sobre a unidade da obra musical contemplando aspectos históricos, socioculturais, técnicos, morfológicos e simbólicos a partir de uma abordagem crítica, colocando em perspectiva o caráter de valor que frequentemente lhe é atribuídoAbstract: This dissertation addresses the problem of the unity of a musical work based on Aristotle's Metaphysics. The quest to investigate the problem of unity from a philosophical perspective responded to the need to produce a certain critical distance that would allow us to reevaluate ideas that we find within the field of music and that we tend to understand as universal truths. Although we found some ways that made it possible to relativize unity as a virtue or as a necessary condition of the musical work in texts by Kenneth Stampp, the study of Aristotle's Metaphysics was fundamental to understand that unity is not a necessary attribute for each and every form of existence. From some complementary Aristotelian texts, such as book VIII of Politics, it was possible to recover the meaning of music as an activity (energeia), which allowed us to contemplate two meanings of musical work, immanent and transcendent. The immanent meaning concerns the sound phenomenon that can be scientifically measured, while the transcendent meaning contemplates the aesthetic experience and the effective changes that it is capable of producing within the symbolic field. Even though we addressed the symbolic dimension of unity in the last chapter, this distinction contributed to a more precise formulation of the initial problem of this investigation, namely: in what sense can a musical work, in its immanent aspect, be one?, revealing the need to address, in future works, the unity of the work in its transcendent sense. The work presents a review of some classic texts in the area of Music that mention unity, covering texts by Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Donald Grout and Claude Palisca, Arnold Schoenberg, Igor Stravinsky and Karlheinz Stockhausen, and problematizes the idea of a musical work to based on readings by Roman Ingarden and Carl Dahlhaus.
