A amostra de vinte e dois pacientes foi selecionada de um grupo de pacientes submetidos a transplante renal no Serviço de Transplante Renal do Hospital de Clínicas da Universidade Federal do Paraná que anteriormente responderam ao questionário de qualidade de vida. Todos os pacientes foram entrevistados pelo autor seguindo a metodologia de entrevistas abertas e não diretivas. Embora a grande maioria dos indivíduos refira que o transplante lhes trouxe um aumento na sua qualidade de vida, pode-se concluir que a doença e a situação pós-transplante encontram ou desencadeiam uma significação particular do sujeito, muitas vezes dando amparo para uma posição subjetiva de doentio. Esta situação indica que o conceito de saúde escapa dos cálculos estatísticos que definem normalidade, que tampouco saúde pode ser reduzida a um mero equilíbrio ou capacidade adaptativa, senão que deve ser pensada como a capacidade de instaurar novas normas em situações adversas. Assim, um indivíduo, mesmo tendo se submetido a um transplante renal, tendo como rotina a ingestão de medicamentos anti-rejeição, pode perceber-se como normal e, conseqüentemente, pode dar respostas ativas, em estreita relação com as demandas de forma e de função com seu meio ambiente.Abstract: This study attempt to do the measurement how the chronicle renal disease affects life of people, and investigate how the transplant, a highly innovative modality of the medical science, can contribute to the rescue or reconstruction of the identity, returning his freedom to go and arrive in life. The sample of 22 patients was selected from a group of patients submitted to renal transplantation at the Serviço de Transplante Renal of the Hospital das Clínicas - Universidade Federal do Paraná who had previously respond to a Quality of Life Questionnaire. All patients were interviewed by the author following a open and indirect interview method. Although the majority of the individuals refers that the transplant increase their quality of life, or one can conclude that the disease and the situation after transplant may lead to a particular signification of the subject, frequently supporting a subjective position of "not healthy". This situation shows that the health concept, escapes from the statistics calculation that define normality, that either health can be reduced to a mere balance or adaptable capacity, or else that must be thought like a capacity to establish new standards in adverse situations.
